What Is Juneteenth? 

Juneteenth, celebrated every June 19th, commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas were finally informed of their freedom—more than two years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. It marks the official end of slavery in the United States and stands as one of the most important anniversaries in American history. 

Why It Matters Today 

Juneteenth is more than a historical footnote. It’s a reminder of how far we’ve come and how much further we must go. It speaks to the delayed justice that Black communities have long-faced—and still do in many ways. Likewise, it's about resilience in the face of erasure, and the power of truth, legacy, and liberation.
